Although I qualified as a chartered accountant thirty years ago (huh?!) in London, dealing mostly with big companies, I decided that such a mobile qualification made it possible to live where I wanted to live and hope that an apt job would become available. So we moved west, and then west again, and settled in Otterton for reasons that are best explained over a pint rather than in cold print. Fortunately we do have good pints down here...

That was twenty years ago. How lucky, you cry, to have retired to the country at age 30. We bred two Devonian daughters, and driving home from work over the idyllic Woodbury Common is like going on holiday every day.

But my main hobby/sideline/obsession is computer programming. I have a system which deals with entries to horse trials (eventing) and supports the professional scorers, but as a platform the underlying programs also serve applications written for the Diocese of Exeter, for our buiness accounting needs and as a sticky label and address book suite needed for all sorts of small uses.

And Otterton is a perfect place: I can contemplate the river and solve a problem.
